Zalando to build Netherlands DC

Zalando is to develop a new distribution centre in Bleiswijk, close to Rotterdam in order to better service its customers in Benelux, France, Ireland, Spain and the UK. The 160,000 sq.ft. facility, the tenth for the online retailer, is capable of storing 16 million items,  and will  be highly automated, also featuring solar panels on its roof as a nod to sustainability. It will provide employment for around 1500 staff. Zalando is investing c£180 million on the development which it says will shorten delivery times when it opens in two years time.

"A strong logistics network is the foundation for realising our growth strategy and the vision of becoming the 'Starting Point for Fashion'," commented Jam Bartels, Zalando's VP customer fulfilment.
