John Lewis enjoys good Black Friday demand


John Lewis  marked its busiest ever hour of online trading on Black Friday with 705 units purchased per minute between 9am-10am.  The number one search term throughout the day across all devices was iPad and was the also the case for mobile shoppers whereas on the John Lewis app and via desktop Sonos scored first place.

Traffic to the John Lewis website from all channels was 4.8 per cent up on last year but the app proved to be the most popular way for customers to shop, with traffic peaking  between 1pm and 2pm, up 92.3 per cent year-on-year.

At its distribution centres the retailer packed just over 10,000 items per hour – nearly seven per cent more than last year and during its busiest period between 12pm-1pm this increased to 18,000 items.

Dino Rocos, operations director, John Lewis said “Sales on johnlewis.com both overnight and on the day itself have exceeded expectations.” adding “We expect traffic will continue to the website  throughout the weekend. In addition we expect our 49 shops to welcome customers over the weekend a deals run into the early part of next week.”
