Yodel to sponsor Britain’s ultimate cycling challenge – The Countrywide Great Tour

Yodel, the independent UK parcel carrier, is pleased to announce that it has extended its long standing association with cycling, to include the sponsorship of Britain’s ultimate cycling challenge, The Countrywide Great Tour.

The Countrywide Great Tour, which takes in 6,700km of UK coastline, takes place from 4 July to 5 September. The event, which will cover around 100km every day, is open to amateur riders, and will be raising money for charity partners including national cycling charity, CTC.

The sponsorship is in addition to Yodel’s existing association with the Aviva Tour of Britain, Pearl Izumi Tour Series, Aviva Tour Ride sportive and the recent Aviva Women’s Tour.

Yodel delivers 155 million parcels per year on behalf of the UK’s top retailers, including approximately 700,000 bicycles and cycle parts, and visits every UK postcode every day. Its partnership with The Countrywide Great Tour will see the carrier provide a fleet of vehicles to transport vital equipment for each stage of the event and pave the way for the cyclists taking on the challenge.

A core group will ride the whole event, being joined daily by corporate, charity and day riders. Participants can choose to take part in one day, seven days or the entire 64 days, giving amateur riders the chance to ride like a pro.

Dick Stead, executive chairman of Yodel, said: “Yodel has developed a strong association with cycling via the Tour of Britain, the Tour Series and the Tour Ride. More recently we have expanded our sponsorship, last year with the inaugural Women’s Tour and this year we are delighted to be able to further strengthen our association with cycling with the Great Tour. In cycling and in the parcels business, delivery depends on teamwork and the need to be on top of your game day after day, which is why we are delighted to increase our support and encourage more people to take up cycling through our partnership with the Great Tour.”
