It is understood that NM Rothschild is conducting a low key search for a buyer for the Waterstones chain of book stores whilst also advising on future funding options should a sale prove difficult. Waterstones was acquired from HMV in 2011 by Alexander Mamut for £53 million. A current valuation based on the very much improved trading experienced trading since then could see the chain attract more than four times what was paid for it.
