Poundland opens new DC

Minister of State for Employment, Esther McVey was called upon to open Poundland’s new distribution in Harlow last week. The new facility will help support Poundland’s growing number of stores by providing capacity for the several hundred new store openings it has in planning over the next three years.  CEO Jim McCarthy said “The centre will provide greater availability of products to our customers and improved stock management for the business. The depot will also be critical to driving our expansion plans, helping us achieve our long-term target of opening 1000 stores in the UK.”

Poundland’s interim results for the 26 weeks to September 28th show total sales of £528.2 million, up from £459.2 million last year,  and the business says it is now serving more than five million customers a week as shoppers continue to be attracted by cost saving opportunities.
