It has emerged that Maplin is seeking a buyer to avoid the prospect of entering administration. The electronics retailer which operates from over 200 stores and has 2500 employees has been struggling to compete with pure-play online sellers, many of which are overseas based, which trade via marketplaces like Amazon. The business has been working to add value to its offering by offering a installation service for its “smart home” products believing that this would enable it to broaden its appeal. It is being suggested that some potential buyers have emerged but no confirmation of this could be obtained.
Maplin is owned by Rutland Partners.
