Green light for Poundland’s 99p Stores acquisition


The Competition & Markets Authority has now provisionally cleared Poundland’s planned acquisition of rival 99p Stores. Poundland had agreed to buy 99p Stores for £55 million in February but was delayed by the CMA which was concerned about a potential reduction in consumer choice were the deal to go ahead.  The CMA will now move to Phase 2 of its review. 

The deal was subsequently approved on 17th September.
